Juun
Juun: Mayan Language //: unique
JUUN’s garments are created by Mexican designers and hand embroidered by Náhuatl women in the state of Puebla. The brand’s objective is to help conserve ancient indigenous traditions and create employment opportunities to the dozens of tejadoras, or embroiderers, who fabricate them.
The artisans develop their skills since childhood, and they pass down this legacy from generation to generation.
Pepenar comes from Náhuatl tongue and means to pick or choose. With great mathematical precision, the artisans execute complex mental calculations in order to embroider figures inside incredibly small fabric squares. In the fabric, they tell stories based on their own creativity, the indigenous worldview, and observations of nature. For each article of clothing from JUUN, 92 hours of embroidery are inverted and more than 80 meters of thread.
